It looks to me like the B=25 had around a 250 mile range
advantage over the B-26. So, perhaps it was simply a matter
that the B-25's extended range made it a better fit in the
PTO and MTO?

Clearly the answer to this would be to analyze the "typical"
mission of the two aircraft in the ETO/MTO, and then analyze
how well protected their "typical" target was covered. I'll
pass on that analysis, thanks.
