The ice ship, or platform or floating island really, could not be sunk. The
material, naturally floated. The whole structure could be one solid mass
with pieces cut out for plant, etc.

A massive floating island, probably towed, was very feasible and plonked in
the middle of the Atlantic would be a great airfield. Also other ice
islands could act as floating harbours and repair facilities for ships.
Other ice blocks could be attached around the floating island to protect it
from U-Boat torpedoes.

These ice ships were never intended to be swift moving aircraft carriers.
