There was a documentary about this Brigade on PBS two or
three years ago. After V-E Day, they began smuggling
Holocaust survivors out of Europe into Palestine, which
upset the British Government. So the Brigade was moved from
Italy to the Netherlands, where they managed to continue
their smuggling activities even though they were being
watched. The US was equipping the newly rebuilt Dutch army
with trucks. The brigade stole several of those trucks and
repainted them with IDs that matched those on their own
trucks. They used the stolen trucks on their smuggling
forays, but anytime there were reports that the trucks were
being used improperly, they would point out that their
trucks were in the motor pools where they belonged, and they
could not have been where the reports came from.
