Subject: Re: HMS Sydney has been found

The latest photos have found about 60% of the lifeboats. The press release I
have seen indicates that the lifeboats were riddled with shot holes. The
concluding statement was that there were only four lifeboats unaccounted
for. Given that most of the lifeboats apparently went down with the ship,
then the chances of any of the crew surviving (without any recourse to being
machinegunned by Kormoran members) look very slim.
Given William of Ocams theorem, I think that we can say that the suddenness
of the action, the extensive damage suffered and the damage to the lifeboats
all point to a simple , sudden sinking, which taken with the time taken to
start a search and rescue effort would easily account for no survivors.
Regarding the claims that Detmer changed his story, I can cite one very
eminent QC who claims that many eyewitnesses also change their stories, even
when they are not the one in the dock. Human nature being what it is and
memory being a very fallible beast, he believes that if a story does NOT
change over time, then that is when he gets suspicious.
