Given by the German survivors. And *only* the German survivors.

Survivors who, mostly, wouldn't have had a clew what actually
happened, and the few who *did* ... Detmers and the Bridge officers
... who could have been guilty of opening fire under a false flag,
making them pirates/war criminals and therefore giving them a real
reason to lie through their teeth.

So Detmers et alii, those with a real potential reason for lying, say.

Did it *actually* happen this way or not?

We may know when the actual wreck is videoed, or not.

According to Detmers account. And he may well have lied and had a real
reason to continue to do so.
