Actually no, some pretty thorough testing by Eighth Army in fall 1942
showed that the stabilizer was quite useful and could be very
successful, especially in a "scoot and shoot", since it reduced the
oscillation of the tube and gunsight, allowing the gunner to aquire
the target much more quickly. Firing on the move was problematic of
course, and they also found that it did require some training and
practice on the part of the crew to learns its advantages.

Why? The T1/M6 was much heavier, but not really better armored than
the M4, was mechanically unreliable in a number of points and was
never really considered successful. Of course, the same could be said
for the T26. :)
