Um, two things here.

First, Patton did not show up well in Lorraine. He had opportunities
for more maneuver and less head-on attacking than he used.

Second, Market-Garden was not just Monty. It was a much more
widespread mess than that. I have this sneaky suspicion that
it might have gone better if Montgomery had run the whole thing.
