Subject: Churchill's speeches

This article

http://www.winstonchurchill.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=101

asserts that contrary to a widely accepted
story, Winston Churchill did in fact read
his own speeches for broadcast on the BBC,
including the "Fight on the beaches" speech.

The alternate story is that Churchill refused
to speak to a microphone, and that the speeches
were recorded for broadcast by BBC voice actor
Norman Shelley. Shelley made this claim
several times, and (per this article) his
claim was widely disseminated by David Irving.

The article cites several bits of counter-
evidence (that Churchill spoke for himself)
and some inconsistencies in the Shelley-Irving
story.

Any comments?
