Subject: new MIT textbook on photonic crystals, available free online

Our new textbook, "Photonic Crystals: Molding the Flow of
Light" (second edition) is now available as an online PDF on our web
site (as well as in a full-color printed book by Princeton Univ.
Press):

Photonic crystals are periodically structured electromagnetic media,
which can dramatically alter the behavior of light in a manner
analogous to the behavior of electrons in crystalline atomic materials
(e.g. as Silicon semiconductors). The first edition of "Photonic
Crystals: Molding the Flow of Light" in 1995 has retained enduring
popularity as an undergraduate-level introduction to this field, and
the second edition greatly revises and expands upon the original book
(to roughly twice the length).

Hopefully, this will be of interest to some of the students (and
researchers) on this newsgroup.

Steven G. Johnson
