I take that back. If the house system wasn't introduced
until 1919, Raymond Chandler (who was there 1900-1905)
couldn't have been in Marlowe house, could he? Pity! On
the other hand, that he attended the school founded by
Marlowe's leading actor, and which still houses the Alleyn
Diary and Henslowe Papers, may have played some part in
the choice of Philip Marlowe's name, don't you think?

I am told - although I refuse to believe it - that girls
are now to be found at Dulwich too. Matron, the school
secretary and the dinner ladies were the only females
around in my day. Fortunately I was a day-boy, and able
to pursue any related enthusiasms elsewhere!
Authorship was certainly the school's thing, however, as
in addition to the above-mentioned Chandler there were
C.S.Forester, P.G.Wodehouse and Dennis Wheatley.
Bob Monkhouse doesn't count, I suppose?
Was the alleged one twentieth of a hole per townsperson
before or after your day?
