Description: Senior Clinical IT Developer
Under minimal direction, incumbent will realize the mission of Clinical Database Management Systems (CDMS) through analysis, design, implementation, testing and support of vendor based as well as custom developed, moderately complex information systems over multiple hardware and software platforms in accordance with applicable regulations and operational procedures. Responsibilities include: creates & maintains standards for clinical database specification documents such as annotated case report forms and study data dictionaries; responsible for design, oversight and direction to CDMS projects; research, advise and advocate software development environments, database environments and clinical application choices where warranted; manages and executes the creation of clinical database objects and user interfaces in various development environments including Oracle Forms & Reports, MS Access, Visual Basic, and PowerBuilder based on specifications; designs, analyzes, implements and oversees application and software interfaces in SQL, VB, C++ or other environments; responsible for report and outbound infrastructure development in a client server environment creating and utilizing reusable code modules; utilizes vertical market database schemas or designs and creates custom database schemas in SQL to interact with and support clinical applications; prepares and maintains formal testing and validation processes; assures applications are properly tested by managing all aspects of formal validation and user acceptance testing; directs unit, integration and stress tests, identifies and documents system deficiencies, and investigates root cause of problems; directs and confirms debugging and verification of software developed by others; facilitates application rollout and formally monitors usage, upgrades and change requests and assures that technical assistance is provided as needed; researches and applies regulatory requirements to all aspects of application development; authors and maintains work instructions related to clinical systems; develops end user documentation and trains end users on clinical applications in both formal and informal settings and provides ongoing technical assistance to users; presents product and application information to multiple disciplines to support product adoption and decision making and directs multidisciplinary teams in problem analysis; acts as liaison to software vendors and external contract services and coordinates activities between software vendors and needs of technical team; and attends and presents in training, phone conferences or other professional development activities. Qualifications include: a Bachelor Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 5 to 8 years of experience; or a Master’s Degree of same type with 3 to 7 years experience. (Will consider minimum 7 years work experience in a position involving application development together with commensurate computer science coursework, training or product certification.); a minimum of 2 years experience in clinical trial informatics required; experience with Oracle Clinical application, open database connectivity, Microsoft Access, and SQL; the ability to create reports using SQL, Microsoft Access and other reporting tools; web development experience helpful; demonstrated ability to develop standard procedures and practices relating to databases and database management; good diagnostic and troubleshooting skills; good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the Clinical and Regulatory Affairs staff.
