GENERAL SUMMARY: Create and maintain software for a variety of navigation systems products. May be involved in some or all phases of the software development and release cycle. These phases include research, conceptual planning, design, scheduling, coding, code reviews, troubleshooting and debugging, status reporting, packaging, installation, documentation, building, software maintenance and testing. Maintain a focus on customer requirements, system/software safety and project objectives while mitigating project and product risk. Must be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment with limited supervision. PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Designs and develops software for use onboard US Navy vessels. Troubleshoots and debugs software programs. Experience in the following areas: 1. Development: 3+ years of PLC based software development experience required. Experience with General Industrial Automation is highly desirable Prior experience with military software development and software Life Cycle Maintenance desirable. 2. Technologies: Knowledge of PLC based control systems Knowledge of object oriented software design Network communications (TCP/IP, Broadcasts, Multicasts, Unicasts) 3. Platforms/Operating Systems Rockwell Automation / Allen Bradley RSLogix PLCs, required Experience with Siemens SIMATIC PLCs is desirable Windows 2000/XP and Win32 required. Experience with Linux/Unix is desirable Understanding of operating system concepts and networking protocols. 4. Languages: Strong Rockwell Automation / Allen Bradley PLC development environment C/C++ programming and debugging skills ANSI C and C Standard Library are desirable 1. Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or technical institute. 1. Typically requires 3-5 years of related experience in computer programming. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: TECHNICAL SKILLS: 1. Development - C/C++, PLC development environments. 2. Development and implementation of Complex Logic Algorithms 3. Experience with Control Systems 4. Experience in and knowledge of basic analog and digital electrical circuits 5. Knowledge of XML is desirable 6. Design - Experience with object oriented software design. Expected to exercise sound technical judgment and minimize risk. 7. Debugging - Strong debugging and problem solving skills. Knowledge and experience using PLC and Microsoft Windows user mode debuggers (i.e. VisualStudio, etc.) and kernel mode debuggers is highly desirable. 8. Documentation - Must be able clearly and concisely define technical issues NON-TECHNICAL SKILLS: 1. Verbal Communication - Strong English language verbal communication skills 2. Written Communication - Strong English language written communication skills 3. Project Management - Not a strong requirement 4.
