Area Overview The Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) of New York has a number of web development initiatives underway. As a member of the Business Systems Development staff, the candidate would participate in the design, implementation and maintenance of several internal and external J2EE distributed web applications related to Online Financial and Regulatory reporting. The position is for a Junior to Mid-Level Application Developer who has experience in developing and implementing applications using the J2EE architecture, works well in a team, and strives for product quality. The candidate will actively participate in a team of experienced Java developers to implement using widely used technology solutions such as Struts, Hibernate, XML & XSL, AJAX, and other internally developed infrastructure components. The candidate will be involved in the entire project life cycle (requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, deployment, maintenance, and enhancements).

Job Responsibilities

* Assist in entire System Development Life-cycle; * Participate in the analysis and design of applications with the System Architect and business users (including business model, security model and business components); * Assist in translating business model and user requirements into software specifications; * Build application components based on software specifications; * Participate in design walk-throughs; * Provide support of application deployment and maintenance; * Support testing (Functional, Performance, Access controls); * Develop documentation artifacts; * Work closely with the team to ensure the highest quality product; and * Work on assigned project tasks and ad-hoc assignments to meet the evolving needs of the projects.

Job Requirements

* Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent work experience; * Proven working knowledge of J2EE architecture; * At least 2 years of experience in implementing Java applications using object oriented design methodology and design patterns; * At least 2 years of working experience with Servlets, JSPs, HTML, XML and respective parsers, and JavaScript; * Experience with Struts or equivalent framework; * Experience with IBM Websphere 5 and above or equivalent web container; * Experience with Microsoft SQL Server or other relational databases; * Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to use technology and software products for supported applications * Strong coding, analytical and debugging skills; * Ability to carry out project assignment after consultation with supervisor and/or senior technical staff; * Strong verbal and written communications skills; * Ability to author well-written technical documentation; and * Ability to work well with others as part of a team. Desirable:

* Strong ability to apply object oriented design methodology and design patterns; * Experience with Hibernate or equivalent ORM tools; Reporting and analytical tools; Reporting tools such as JasperReports; * Developing tools to render data into PDF or MS Excel; * Experience with UML using tools such as Visio or Rational Rose; * JUnit testing tool; * AJAX; and * Knowledge of HTTP, HTTPS, TCP/IP and CMM.
