Description: Senior Computer Scientist Location: Lexington Park, MD Req. No.: SAEBU08SC019-SE Division: Systems Engineering Naval Aviation Software Engineers (Mid-Level) A number of software engineering positions are available to support NAVAIR. These positions are for Mid-Level Software Engineers. These persons support the development and modification of the software aspects of advanced Naval aircraft systems. They plan, conduct, and coordinate the development of diverse scientific computer programs and associated documentation, including block diagrams and logic flow charts. They provide technical advice and consultation on difficult scientific programming applications of all parameters affecting and interfacing with the application to other staff members. They conceptualize, develop and implement complex scientific program designs. They participate in developing scientific programming and documentation standards. They may prepare cost analyses and justifications for programming projects. They coordinate with computer operations staff to resolve program malfunctions and processing problems encountered in operational runs. They correct program errors by reviewing instructions or altering sequence of programs and may provide work leadership for lower level employees. At least four (4) years relevant experience consisting of professional computer engineering or technical leadership experience directly related to development of hardware and software required for complex navy weapons systems and technical analysis. An understanding of real-time, embedded multi-computer systems is essential. A substantial portion of this experience should be in the areas of software development, documentation, configuration control, verification and validation, and technical leadership. Applicants must be capable of data analyses, model development and have broad experience in applicable computer programming techniques. Applicants must have demonstrated experience in the analysis and design of real time executive software, data base management, coding and debugging of assembler language (SPL or equivalent), C++, ADA, and RISC 6000. The applicant must have an Undergraduate degree in science or engineering. Experience may be substituted for an undergraduate degree. Basic and advanced degrees can be used to offset experience requirements. Degrees in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related scientific or technical discipline can be used. Pay is variable, depending upon experience and is negotiable. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Work will be at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD.
