Description: TEKsystems, in partnership with a Columbia-based company, is currently recruiting an IT specialist with well-rounded programming skills. Along with the technologies listed below, the ideal candidate will have experience interfacing with business groups gathering/interpreting requirements as well as supporting users as a tier III analyst. Project management experience a huge plus. Able to translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications to develop practical programming solutions that meet the customers business objectives. Serves as the programming IT Team Lead for a small to mid-size projects, ensuring database/programming design, development, testing and documentation are completed to meet overall project and business objectives. Reports to the Applications Manager. Responsibilities - Able to translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications to develop practical programming solutions that meet customers business objectives. - Develops a good understanding of how the computer network architecture interacts with applications with regards to network protocols, connectivity and authentication - Designs and creates normalized database structures, obtaining sign-off from application manager or senior programmer. - Utilizes Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft .Net for development to deliver functional requirements. Actively participates in the evaluation of new development tools/techniques. - Develops accurate time estimates for development assignments. Assists other programmers with developing time estimates, as assigned. - Maintains a high productivity in completing database and programming assignments. Maintains expertise in at least one tool used for the development process. - Develops and executes software test plans to ensure the program meets user requirements. Assists other programmers with developing software test plans, as assigned. - Documents programming assignments. Includes but not limited to customizations, interfaces, technical diagrams, etc. Actively participates in the development and refinement of documentation tools. - Creates efficient processes to move data between systems and/or process data within a system. - Creates accurate and efficient querying of data from various database systems. - Serves as the programming IT Team Lead for a small to mid-size projects. Manages programming tasks from project initiation through completion understanding how assigned tasks affects the overall project objectives and target dates. - Understands and utilizes established programming, testing and release standards. Actively participates in the refinement and maintenance of current standards and the establishment of new standards. - Ensures assigned support calls are closed with pertinent documentation describing problem and resolution within 24 hours of resolving the call. Ensures proper escalation of customer issues to management per Help Desk guidelines. - Works effectively as an IT Team Member and with employees from other departments. - Perform other duties as requested. Qualifications Education: - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems (or equivalent). - Education and working knowledge in structured code techniques, normalized database structure, query language, structured design and development, and crafting practical solutions to meet customers business requirements. Experience: - 3 - 6 years experience in developing and implementing database/programming solutions. - Efficient use of structured code techniques. - Solid Query skills and understanding of the Structured Query Language (SQL). - Efficient SQL skills and understanding of the database design. - Served as a project team member and in a team lead role for mid- to large-scale implementations. - Prior working experience with the following tools: VB, VB .NET, ASP, ASP .NET, Crystal Reports, Word, Excel, Access, MSSQL Server, SQL, TSQL, DTS, Cognos Impromptu, Cognos Powerplay, Cognos Transformer. General: - Strong investigation and problem solving skills. - Sensitivity to client needs and environment. - Ability to initiate, monitor and control multiple unrelated projects and activities. - Dedicated to quality and on-schedule results. - Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. - Strong customer service skills. - Strong interpersonal skills. - Strong written and spoken communications.
