The position of Sr. SQL/Cognos developer is for an IT professional that has 5+ years experience in the design, development and implementation of reports with business intelligence tools; particularly with Cognos ReportNet, Crystal Reports, and Siebel. The candidate should have an in-depth knowledge of relational databases, OLAP, and data access/front-end tools such as Oracle (PL-SQL), SQL, and Excel.



Essential Functions/Percentage of Time Spent on Each:



High level function/responsibility Percentage of time on task

Requirements analysis of BI functions and determination of level of effort for report development 20%

Data modeling and performance tuning 20%

“Ad hoc” report development/processing 25%

“Standard” report development/processing 25%

Team member mentoring 10%





Responsibilities:



• Setup and maintain Cognos ReportNet environment

• Use a business intelligence environment for developing a wide variety of analytical reports using Cognos BI tools (ReportNet, Framework Manager, Analysis Studio, PowerPlay) or Siebel

• Provide technical and analytical support to various departments within the customer organization

• Write ad hoc reports in the development environment and develop new custom reports using Cognos, Siebel and Crystal BI tools

• Translate high-level requirements from the customer into effective BI solutions

• Perform technical tasks such as data modeling, BI application specification performance tuning and deployment support

• Work with the quality assurance and system test team to quickly resolve issues





Required Skills:



• Minimum 5 years SQL and PL/SQL experience

• Minimum 5 years in OLP Modeling

• Familiarity with ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Loading)

• Ability to perform monthly/quarterly reporting functions in the current Cognos environment (Series 7 OLAP models in Unix environment)

• Must be knowledgeable with Cognos 8 administration and development

• Minimum 1 year of Cognos installation and configuration

• Minimum 3 years of Unix bash, Korn, and Perl coding

• Hands-on experience with Cognos tool suite components

• Good understanding of relational structures, dimensional data modeling, structured query language (SQL) skills, data warehouse and reporting techniques

• Strong hands-on experience using SQL with a relational DBMS such as Oracle

• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities

• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment on fast-paced dynamic projects





Supplemental Skills:



• Experience with Cognos ReportNet to develop and customize reports





Education & Qualification:



Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field





Supervisory Responsibility, if any:



Ability to mentor team members less knowledgeable in BI tools and development
