The original post didn't mention any warranty by Asus, merely that
they had " agreed to address the situation". Simply by offering to
help they did not establish a contractual relationship.

"Legal advice" comes in may forms, some better than others. On the
basis of the original post that advice, if it was actually given,
would be faulty.
