I'm not talking about blaming. I'm taking about who did what.

The north could have negotiated a peaceful settlement. They didn't do
that for their own reasons. They could have negotiated a turnover of
Sumter. They didn't do that.
So, a North determination to enforce US supremacy over the seceded
states was a cause of the war.
